Newham Poetry House

Delivered by Newham Poetry Group

In 2020, we are supporting “Newham Poetry House”, a Newham project run by Newham Poetry Group through our Connecting People and Places funding, co-funded by Foundation for Future London and City of London.

We awarded “Newham Poetry House” project a grant as it meets many of Connecting People and Places’s themes and priorities including place-making, engagement, and partnerships.

The project also focuses on Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people and working class people, which are some of our priority groups of marginalised beneficiaries we want to reach.

About the project

The Newham Poetry House is a project for local poets and poetry lovers. It will run one day per week and will include poetry classes, workshops, discussions groups, screenings, open mic sessions and performances by local and vising poets and writers. The Poetry House will have a reading corner with a small library and tables for writing, playing words games and sharing poetry over cups of tea. Each week will have a “poet of the day”, providing a focus on a style and or culture with selected books and videos and invited guests —and where possible, the selected poet themselves. The Poetry House also include a weekly book swap.
