In 2020, we are supporting “Aberfeldy Live! Talkaoke”, a Tower Hamlets project run by The People Speak through our Connecting People and Places funding, co-funded by Foundation for Future London and City of London.
We awarded “Aberfeldy Live! Talkaoke” project a grant as it meets many of Connecting People and Places’s themes and priorities including participation, diversity, training, engagement, outreach and partnerships.
The project also focuses on Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people, one of the marginalised groups of beneficiaries we want to reach.
“Aberfeldy Live! Talkaoke” will see monthly Talkaoke events and a facilitation training programme in Poplar. Over the next 12 months, The People Speak will be taking a micro tour of Aberfeldy Street, popping up in the Perfect Fried Chicken, the Londis, The Tommy Flowers Pub, the church, the mosque and on the street — getting conversations going between the people we find there. Talkaoke is an interactive talk show where the agenda is set by the participants. As we move from place to place, we will recruit contributors as new facilitators, producers and visualisers. They will absorb valuable new skills and take Talkaoke to the places they feel need it most.
