Westfield Stratford City

Westfield Stratford City is London’s most popular shopping destination by footfall, located in London’s fastest growing area, and now has over 51 million annual customer visits. The centre has been a catalyst for the regeneration of the Stratford area, bringing around a million shoppers every week, as well as jobs, tourism and investment to the local community.

As a group, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has invested over £1.75 billion in Westfield Stratford City with further investment of £670 million on 1,200 new homes in the surrounding area. The Group investment continues to include significant public realm improvements and green space provision, from new pedestrian routes to sustainable open space. This has created environments people want to visit, live and work in – in turn bringing further economic and social benefits.

Westfield is committed to continuously improving the environmental performance of its shopping centres and minimising their environmental impact. Below are some of the highlights of our environmental programme at Westfield Stratford City:

  • Zero waste to landfill – the large majority is recycled and anything that can’t be recycled goes to energy recovery. This includes all of the waste from our retailers
  • Low energy lighting and other innovative technologies to reduce energy use and carbon emissions
  • Rainwater harvesting – we collect rainwater in tanks on the roofs and use this for flushing the customer toilets
  • Waterless urinals – our customer urinals use a waterless system to save water
  • Onsite brown roof with wildflowers and bird and bat boxes, pocket parks and living wall to encourage biodiversity
  • ISO14001 accreditation – awarded in 2013 in recognition of our effective environmental management system and commitment to continuous improvement.
