Delivered by Makeda Makes
In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Makeda Makes for its project “My Hood” for people in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest through our Medium Grant Scheme.
“My Hood” is an innovative youth project taking reading from the classroom and the library and into the streets in this artist-led live education/arts project, covering three East London boroughs.
The Medium Grant Scheme is part of our Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.
The project meets three of our scheme’s key themes, Employment Opportunities, Learning Opportunities and Young People.
“My Hood” will see diverse groups of young creatives work with three different artists at three local libraries. Producing exciting spoken word performances based on their local borough. Using the library as a base, they will take part in artist-led workshops which will culminate in a series of live outdoor spoken word performance in a specially created outdoor set for the public.
Each young person will achieve a Bronze Arts Award as part of their development providing UCAS points and accreditation for their futures.
