Delivered by Maya Productions
In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Maya Productions for its project “Diverse Voices” for young women in Tower Hamlets through our Small Grant Scheme.
Diverse Voices is a schools playwriting programme in Tower Hamlets to empower predominantly Asian, black and ethnically diverse girls and young women to use theatre as a means of self expression and as a viable platform for their voice.
The Small Grant Scheme is part of our new Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.
The project meets two of our scheme’s key themes, Young People and Learning Opportunities.
Diverse Voices is a schools playwriting programme in Tower Hamlets to empower predominantly Asian, black and ethnically diverse girls and young women to use theatre as a means of self expression and as a viable platform for their voice.
Through a series of playwriting workshops, students will develop creative and playwriting skills. The workshops will culminate in a professionally directed and acted showcase performance of the plays written by the students for an audience of family, friends, peers, and the wider community.
The programme aims to reduce inequality of access to theatre and the performing arts for groups traditionally underrepresented, as creators, workers, and audiences. It will support educational attainment through building transferable skills in speaking, writing, listening and communication. By employing ethnically diverse creatives, who will act as role models for the girls, we will support career pathways into the arts and inspire the next generation of theatre artists.
