In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Mediorite in partnership with Spotlight for its project “Connect” for young people in Tower Hamlets through our Medium Grant Scheme.
“Connect” will engage local young people through creative activities to build long term engagements and bridge the gap to East Bank.
The project meets three of our scheme’s key themes, Employment Opportunities, Learning Opportunities and Young People.
CONNECT will deliver practical, fun creative media sessions for 11 to 19 year olds at Spotlight, a creative youth space in Poplar, Tower Hamlets. Spotlight aims to provide outstanding opportunities for discovery, growth and inspiration through free state of the art sound, film, design, art and broadcasting facilities, alongside performance, dance, and boxing opportunities.
Starting with broad engagement, initial taster sessions will be open access, irrespective of experience, age, background or ability and prioritise creating safe, enjoyable spaces, which will enable young people to experience a media they’ve not tried before. From this we aim to foster longer term engagement by providing follow-on intermediate learning opportunities focused on developing young people skills in filmmaking, developing a pipeline of creative talent in Poplar.
Over 12 months the programme will build in stages from short sessions to structured holiday courses and end with activities connecting to the wider creative sector on the doorstep.,
