Phone to Film

In 2020 & 2021, we are supporting “Phone to Film”, a Waltham Forest project run by Idea Space through our Connecting People and Places funding, co-funded by Foundation for Future London and City of London.

We awarded “Phone to Film” project a grant as it meets many of Connecting People and Places’s themes and priorities including collaboration, participation, diversity, education, engagement, partnerships and well-being.

The project also focuses on young people, Black, Asian and ethnically diverse (BAME) people and working class people, which are some of our priority groups of marginalised beneficiaries we want to reach.

About the project

“Phone to Film” is a pilot project with the aim to engage young people in E11 in artist-led workshops and talks, building confidence, creativity and skills. Starting with photography from a phone to making animations, participants will go on to learn from locally based professional photographers and film makers using DSLR cameras and editing digital video. Finally, the participants will take part in writing workshops led by the Royal Court Theatre to create a spoken word piece for a short film.

There is a wealth of untapped creativity and talent within our community, which our youth are struggling to express due to many factors outside of their control. We will give them the foundation to access the social and technical skills required to form creative collaborations necessary to successfully realise and express complex ideas.
