Delivered by Selina Thompson (STLtd)
In 2020 and 2021, we are supporting “Immersion”, a project in Tower Hamlets run by artist Selina Thompson and her company STLtd, in collaboration with Artsadmin through our Connecting People and Places fund, co-funded by Foundaton for Future London and City of London.
We awarded “Immersion” project funding as it meets many of Connecting People and Places’s themes and priorities including collaboration, creative learning, participation, engagement, diversity, inclusive, accessibility, environment, place-making, and partnerships.
The project also focuses on Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people, young people and older people, which are amongst the priority groups of marginalised beneficiaries we want to reach.
Between a residency, an occupation, a workshop and a durational performance, artist Selina Thompson and an intergenerational group of younger and older women of colour from Tower Hamlets will be present and resident in Toynbee Studios, Artsadmin’s home in Aldgate East, for a two-week period in spring 2021.
“Immersion” explores strategies for pleasure, care and well-being in climate activism, building on Selina’s ongoing artistic investigation of democratic participation and the politics beyond representation. This project is part of Season for Change, a UK-wide programme of arts activity about climate awareness, activism and justice, co-delivered by Julie’s Bicycle and Artsadmin.
For this project, STLtd is collaborating with Tower Hamlets-based arts producing charity Artsadmin.
