In 2023, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Maya Productions for its project “Diverse Voices 2023” to help young women in Tower Hamlets use writing for performance as a means of self-expression and confidence building, through our Small Grant Scheme.
The Small Grant Scheme is part of our Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.
Diverse Voices 2023 is a programme empowering primarily South Asian and Global Majority young women to use writing for performance as a means of self-expression and confidence building as well as encouraging a diversity of voices to be amplified. We first piloted the project in 2022 and have utilised participant and partner feedback to develop an enhanced programme for 2023.
Led by an industry professional playwriting tutor, we will deliver a series of playwriting activities to students at Central Foundation Girls’ School in Tower Hamlets. Taster playwriting workshops will introduce the basic elements of playwriting with participants creating characters and writing a dramatic scene. A group of students will go on to participate in in-depth workshops to write their own play and attend an excursion to a theatre in East London.
