About the Civic Awards

Since the introduction of the Newham Civic Awards in 2022, local people are at the heart of the awards process. Award recipients are chosen from hundreds of nominations and stories of inspiring individuals, organisations and groups that are making positive changes and contributions to our community.

These nominees are whittled down to a shortlist, from which a Newham Civic Awards Panel, made up of local people, representatives of local organisations and local councillors make recommendations to the council.

The winners of the Civic Awards are honoured at a grand Awards Ceremony at the Stratford Old Town Hall, with the Mayor of Newham and Chief Executive of the council in attendance.

With every award presented, the ceremony transitions seamlessly between moments of inspiration and entertainment, celebrating not only the achievements of the award recipients but also the rich creative talent in the community. Complemented by a delicious three course meal for recipients and their guests, the mix of delights makes the evening an unforgettable one for all.
