Stephen Burr

Board member

Stephen ‘Steve’ Burr is an experienced charity trustee and senior insurance professional, with over 30 years’ experience in finance. He has held several senior roles in The City, including as an FSA‑approved person.

Steve is currently Chief Actuary at Pool Reinsurance Company Limited, an arm’s‑length government body providing resilience to the UK in the event of a terrorist attack, where he offers strategic oversight of complex risk and modelling within a highly regulated environment.

He serves as Chair of Citizens Advice Enfield, supporting a charity that delivers essential advice services through a combined staff-and-volunteer model. He is also Lead Finance Trustee of Told By An Idiot, a small theatre company, where he supports financial oversight and EDI monitoring. Across his trustee roles, Steve brings practical experience in board leadership, organisational change, executive transition and ensuring that charities are well-governed.

In addition to his actuarial fellowship, Steve holds a Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Corporate Governance Institute. He is known for helping trustees engage confidently with financial information and risk. Outside his professional roles, he is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers, enjoys keeping fit and is an aspiring drummer.
