Connecting People and Places Places Fund 2020-21 Evaluation Report – Public Summary
Foundation for Future London’s Connecting People and Places Fund, co-funded by the City of London Corporation, has supported locally-rooted East London partners to deliver inclusive arts, education and employment programming and creative placemaking and creative placemaking with a focus on Fusion Skills, partnership development and capacity building.
The fund was set up to further connect East London communities with East Bank and connect East London communities with East Bank and kick-start a greater level of cross-cultural district collaboration between East Bank and Culture Mile.
In Spring 2020, the Foundation awarded 25 Connecting People and Places Fund grants and nine small development grants as part of its response to Covid-19. Grants of up to £5k were awarded to individuals and organisations across Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest to deliver inclusive arts and cultural activities.
Additionally, ahead of this public funding round, the Foundation undertook a period of action-based research and engagement between 2019 and 2020 — working with a local community producer to better understand local need for the fund through seven inaugural place-based R&D commissions.
The 41 successful projects received an average grant of £3,438. The Foundation awarded a total amount of £137,509. The cohort of applicants and grantees was representative of East London’s communities. Approximately 55% of applicants were Black, Asian or ethnically diverse, of which 44% were successful.
