Delivered by Streets of Growth
In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Streets of Growth for its creative careers support project “VisionXCite” for young people in Tower Hamlets through our Medium Grant Scheme.
“VisionXCite”will will work collaboratively with schools, Black and South Asian creative role models from industry and education, and creative business networks to remove barriers and increase opportunities for young people of colour in the creative industries.
The Medium Grant Scheme is part of our Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.
The project meets all four of our scheme’s key themes, Employment Opportunities, Learning Opportunities, Young People and Business and Entrepreneur Support.
Streets of Growth’s programme, Vision XCite, will work collaboratively with schools, Black and South Asian creative role models from industry and education, and creative business networks to remove barriers and increase opportunities for young people of colour in the creative industries.
Our dedicated programme of creative workshops and masterclasses will focus on supporting young people in year 10 and 11 who are at high risk of exclusion and harm.
Our project, which has already developed a successful programme with twelve students at risk of exclusion from Swanlea School in Whitechapel, will offer taster sessions in creative skills like fashion, make-up, and film at local schools. These workshops will inspire young people and give them a greater understanding of different careers in the creative industries, before they are invited to take part in employability workshops, including CV Writing and Interview Skills, at our creative enterprise hub, The Manor in Bethnal Green.
Working with our partners at British Bangladeshi Fashion Council, we will provide work experience opportunities to aspiring young creatives, including the chance to work on British Bangladeshi Fashion Week 2022. Our monthly Creative Networking Events held at The Manor will introduce young people involved in the project to a vibrant community of creative experts and industry mentors from Black and South Asian backgrounds including fashion designer Rahemur Rahman and YouTuber Mazzi Cuzzi.
Everyone taking part in the creative programmes will receive specialised support from our youth coaches who will offer one-to-one and small group coaching sessions in key transferable skills for advancing in education and employment. Young people will have the opportunity to gain ASDAN and Arts Awards qualifications which count towards UCAS points when applying for university courses. These specialist youth coaches will also offer support for young people on improving their relationships, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and lifestyle.
To take part, please email Eleanor, Creative Programme Coordinator on eleanor@streetsofgrowth.org or phone her on 07388996824.
