The Yard Theatre: Future Technicians Programme

Delivered by The Yard Theatre Limited

In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to The Yard Theatre for its project “The Yard Theatre: Future Technicians Programme” for people in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest through our Medium Grant Scheme.

“The Yard Theatre: Future Technicians Programme” tackles the creative industry’s lack of diversity, and limited employment opportunities for local young people, by offering intensive technician and backstage worker training across theatre, music and special events.

The Medium Grant Scheme is part of our Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.

The project meets three of our scheme’s key themes,  Employment Opportunities, Learning Opportunities and Young People.

About the project

Future Technicians, a brand new programme for 18-25 year olds looking to develop careers in Theatre and Events Technician management.

“The Yard Theatre: Future Technicians Programme” tackles the creative industry’s lack of diversity, and limited employment opportunities for local young people, by offering intensive technician and backstage worker training across theatre, music and special events.

This programme is totally free and will give eight young people the chance to develop technical skills in lighting (rigging and programming), sound, projection and general technical events management, alongside bespoke interest areas decided by you. You will also receive support with building a CV and securing future employment.

Over 5 months, you will develop your knowledge and skills of technical events and theatre production through practical workshops, venue tours, shadow shifts, real shifts and mentoring.

Deadline: 26th July, 5pm.
