In 2020 & 2021, we are supporting “Painting the Gate”, a Newham project run by artist, educator and curator Eleanor Pearce through our Connecting People and Places funding, co-funded by Foundation for Future London and City of London.
“Painting the Gate” provides art classes for adults in Forest Gate. The project also focuses on older people, neurodiverse people, working class people and Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people, which are some of the marginalised beneficiaries we want to reach.
We awarded “Painting the Gate” project a grant as it meets many of Connecting People and Places’s themes and priorities including creative learning, participation, diverse, inclusive, engagement, and well-being.
“Painting the Gate” is a free art class for adults in Forest Gate. Classes unlock creativity and help to form stronger community bonds. Sessions will take place at The Gate Library and the Forest Gate Community Garden. An exhibition will showcase student’s achievements at the end of the project.
