Delivered by Keynote Music, THAMES/SMC and Soundbox
In 2023, we are supporting Keynote Music, Soundbox and THAMES’ “Around the World” project through our Connecting People and Places Fund’s Collaborative Commissions 2023, co-funded by City of London as part of our Foundations Programme.
“Around the World” aims to present new music created by young people from Soundbox, an inclusive music collective that brings together disabled and non-disabled musicians.
These commissions will unlock further understanding on how creativity can be used to deliver arts, education, employment programming that provides creative learning opportunities, employment and leadership roles, training and fusion skills development.
They also share a commitment to developing equity in their project’s design and delivery, supporting underrepresented people’s ideas and visibility.
New music created by young people from Soundbox, an inclusive music collective that brings together disabled and non-disabled musicians, part of Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service (THAMES), and two Tower Hamlets community performances with Keynote Music/Docklands Sinfonia musicians and singers. Inspired by the theme of around the world and Keynote’s latest project at the Arcola Theatre.
Soundbox is an all-ability inclusive music collective that brings together disabled and non-disabled musicians aged 11+ to make and create music using a mix of traditional instruments, music technology and singing. Sessions are accessible, welcoming and engaging for all. New members are welcome.
This project with Soundbox includes 4 Saturday morning workshops on 29 April, 20 May, 10 June and 24 June at St Paul’s Way Trust school, a free public morning performance at St Paul’s Way Trust School on 8 July, and a free public afternoon performance on TBC 16 July.
