Ensemble Festival is an outdoor community festival held by Certain Blacks in The Royal Docks Newham. The festival presents work from the Without Walls consortium and attracts local and regional audiences. The project is to develop new outdoor work that reflects Newham and Its Community and to train local people to become festival producers, stewards and develop skills for employment. The festival will also add to the healthy living and community feeling of residents by providing opportunities to see high quality performance in the heart of the local community.
The project will feature the trainee producers, stewards training and a volunteer programme for residents to support the delivery of the festival. The festival aims to improve the local economy providing business for local restaurants. Hotels and bars and increasing dwell time in the Victoria Docks area.
The project will include 4 artistic commissions creating a festival that is design for local people which is accessible and safe and contributes to growing the local economy. The project will include commissions for young local artists to make new work for the festival which is green and uses technology in new ways for outdoor performance The project will enable participants to work with mentors to develop practice in developing new work and will be supported by our national partners Without Walls. The project will introduce artists to regional and national festivals and will aim to be a solid introduction in working withing outdoor arts.
