Delivered by Arcola Theatre

In 2022, the Foundation for Future London has awarded a grant to Arcola Theatre for its project “Arcola Theatre Mental Health Community Theatre Company ” for people in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest through our Medium Grant Scheme.

“Arcola Theatre Mental Health Community Theatre Company ” will create multiple employment, creative, learning and early career support opportunities through the creation of a community theatre group for participants with experience of mental health issues.

The Medium Grant Scheme is part of our Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City.

The project meets all four of our scheme’s key themes,  Employment Opportunities, Learning Opportunities, Young People and Business and Entrepreneur Support.

About the project

Arcola Theatre Mental Health Community Theatre Company is a community theatre company for adults who have experience of mental health issues. The weekly theatre sessions will provide a creative and inclusive safe space for participants to share their experiences of mental health issues, challenge the stigma around mental health and collaboratively create a performance together to perform to our communities. The project will begin in late April 2022 and run weekly until July, with performances in July and August 2022.

The theatre project, culminating in four outdoor public performances in summer 2022, that will span Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, welcomes participants from these four boroughs to come and form the community theatre company.

Alongside the participants for the project, Arcola Theatre shall be recruiting two early career community artists/facilitators and one early career photographer from the four boroughs in which the project is taking place.
