Keynote Music, THAMES/SMC and Soundbox
Our project is a partnership between Keynote Music, THAMES/SMC and Soundbox.
THAMES
Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service (THAMES) leads the Tower Hamlets and City of London Music Education Hub. It is part of Tower Hamlets Council. Working with schools and cultural organisations we provide music and arts opportunities for all children and young people who live or go to school in Tower Hamlets.
Keynote Music
Keynote Music is based in Tower Hamlets, dedicated to new music with greater diversity. We seek to commission, develop and produce new music for and with kids and young people, involving our local community. We are building links with several East London Schools tied in with our projects and local children’s music groups in Tower Hamlets and Hackney. We collaborated with Soundbox, an inclusive music group in Tower Hamlets for disabled and non-disabled young people. We seek to commission, develop and produce new music and to take positive action to encourage female and ethnic minority composers. We produced two new operas, and produced/funded concerts with five premieres by female composers in 2022/23.
SOUNDBOX
Soundbox is an all-ability inclusive music collective that brings together disabled and non-disabled musicians aged 11+ to make and create music using a mix of traditional instruments, music technology and singing. They aim for sessions to be accessible, welcoming and engaging for all.
Soundbox takes place as part of the THAMES Saturday Music Centre (SMC) on five Saturday mornings per term at St Paul’s Way Trust School. It was originally set-up as a partnership with Drake Music, Spitalfields Music and London Symphony Orchestra with whom the ensemble continues to have a close relationship.
