Newham Civic Awards 2025: Celebrating Local People Who Help Our Communities Thrive

The Newham Civic Awards shine a light on the individuals, groups and organisations who make our borough vibrant, welcoming and unique.

We’re proud to support the awards for a second year, sponsoring the Create and Thrive Award, which recognises outstanding contributions to arts, culture and sport across Newham. This category celebrates the organisations and collectives whose creativity, leadership and community spirit help our borough flourish.

Each year, residents, workers and learners nominate the local champions who inspire them. These are the people and groups who strengthen community bonds, uplift others and help build a fairer, more connected Newham.

Award Categories

There are 10 categories for the 2025 Newham Civic Awards, recognising individuals, groups and organisations across the borough. These descriptions can guide your nomination:

Awards for Individuals

• Honorary Alderperson Award
  For former councillors who made an exceptional contribution through their service.

• Honorary Freedom of the Borough
  The Council’s highest honour for outstanding service by a non-councillor.

• Good Neighbour Award – sponsored by General Projects
  For everyday heroes caring for people in their local community.

• Outstanding Contribution Award – sponsored by ExCel
  For individuals who have made a significant social, cultural or environmental impact.

Awards for Individuals, Groups or Organisations

• Green Champion Award
  Celebrating those dedicated to improving and protecting Newham’s environment.

• Youth Excellence Award – sponsored by Westfield Stratford City
  Honouring work that helps children and young people thrive.

Awards for Groups and Organisations

• Community Wealth Builder Award – sponsored by Lendlease
  For organisations strengthening Newham’s economy and creating opportunities.

• Create and Thrive Award – sponsored by Foundation for Future London
  Recognising outstanding contributions to arts, culture or sport.

• Well Newham Award
  Celebrating those improving health and wellbeing in the borough.

• Stronger and United Together Award
  For groups that bring people of different backgrounds and cultures together.
