Reimagining where we live: cultural placemaking and the levelling up agenda

The DCMS Committee is now calling for written evidence on cultural placemaking and the levelling up, called “Reimagining where we live: cultural placemaking and the levelling up agenda”, exploring the role that culture might play in delivering a Government commitment to level up the country.

The Foundation for Future London invites you to give your thoughts about how cultural placemaking and levelling up has and could support our East London communities.

The deadline for evidence is 6pm on Friday 18 February 2022.

The DCMS Committee’s inquiry will consider funding for cultural initiatives and how well the current model ensures that distribution goes to areas that might be missing out. MPs will also explore how harnessing local creative talent and businesses could help bring back footfall to high streets and town centres, enlivening commercial buildings and protecting them against closure.

Individuals (or groups of individuals), businesses and organisations and also consortiums of organisations can reply with evidence.

Please see the below prompts to respond to.

The DCMS Committee is inviting written evidence by 6pm on Friday 18 February 2022 addressing the following areas:

  • How can culture reanimate our public spaces and shopping streets?
  • How can creatives contribute to local decision-making and planning of place?
  • How can the Government support places without established artistic infrastructure to take full advantage of the opportunities that the levelling up agenda provides?
  • How might changes to the UK’s broadcasting landscape affect investment in cultural production outside the capital, and what could the consequences be for artists and communities?
  • How should Government build on existing schemes, such as the UK City of Culture, to level up funding for arts and culture?
