Next steps for Empowering Safer Spaces campaign

On Tuesday 12 March, more than three dozen people braved the rain to join us at Streets of Growth’s venue at Aldgate East to discuss what ‘safe spaces’ means for East London’s young people and local communities in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest.

Our colleagues from Social Ark kindly facilitated the consultation to great effect, as feedback was that participants felt heard, included and inspired by the session.

We’re pleased to share some photos from the day, taken by Chris Baker.

We will be using the key findings from the consultation, alongside other research, to inform a major funding bid and to play a part in a PR campaign, by our external PR company Definition, exploring what the impact of years of cuts to local services and closure of community venues has made to our communities.

Next up, in May we’re holding a smaller focused workshop on language with a group of young people and young adults aged 30 or under to take part in a language workshop facilitated by our PR company.

Our campaign will culminate in July 2024.
