Introducing our third Ambassador: Katie Balcombe

We are pleased to welcome the third ambassador to our new Community Ambassador scheme, Katie Balcombe, who will be our new Communications Ambassador.

My name is Katie, and I’m a communications professional who has spent the last 14 years working in culture and placemaking. I’m thrilled to be part of Foundation for Future London’s (FFL) Community Ambassador Programme, helping to promote the foundation’s incredible work and supporting the ambassador programme in championing the outstanding talent in East London.

My connection with East London began four years ago when I moved to Walthamstow, London’s first Borough of Culture. I didn’t know the area well, but I immediately felt a strong sense of community. Even though I’ve lived in London my entire life, I have never experienced anywhere that felt so much like home. The warmth, creativity and energy of the people here are truly special.

East London has a unique character, shaped by its rich history, diversity and resilience. Since the Olympics in 2012, investment in the area has brought exciting new opportunities, but it’s vital that these opportunities are accessible to everyone. With the creation of destinations like East Bank and Royal Docks, we have a chance to ensure that culture-led regeneration benefits local communities in a meaningful and lasting way.

Having worked in communications for cultural organisations and destinations, I’ve seen firsthand how culture can transform lives. My experience promoting places, neighbourhoods and districts undergoing regeneration has reinforced my belief that people are at the heart of what makes these places unique. I have also seen the incredible impact FFL has had in facilitating developments like East Bank to create genuine opportunities for the people who already live here, making sure that these new spaces are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible.

It’s an exciting time to be part of the ambassador programme as the Foundation looks to broaden its partnerships and grant-giving beyond East London, with the aim of reaching and supporting even more communities. The charity has always championed community equity through culture, and it’s fantastic to see them expanding their work to create greater impact and opportunities for people across different areas.

I’m passionate about continuing to support and promote my local borough and the wider area, contributing to its growth and success and ensuring more people know more about the funding and training FFL have to offer. I’m excited to collaborate with the foundation, Tiwa, Jaz, and my fellow FFL ambassadors to celebrate East London, spread awareness of the opportunities available and give back to a community that has been so open and welcoming to me.
